Two Major Players in American Politics & Law
Nov 22, 2026
Starting: 2:45 PM
Biographies of Roy Cohn and Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito provide two perspectives on the relationship between law and political power in America. Kai Bird, Susan Goldmark and Peter S. Canellos discuss their books Sunday, November 22 at Miami Book Fair, in the Chapman Conference Center at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus.
Bird and Goldmark’s American Scoundrel: Roy Cohn’s Dark Journey from Joe McCarthy to Donald Trump traces the lawyer and political fixer’s influence, from his work with McCarthy to his mentorship of Trump. Canellos’ Revenge for the Sixties: Sam Alito and the Triumph of the Conservative Legal Movement examines Alito’s judicial career and role in the conservative legal movement. Joseph Goldstein, a partner at Shutts & Bowen LLP, moderates.
The discussion takes place in Building 3, second floor, Room 3210. Admission is included with a paid Sunday Street Fair ticket, but a separate event ticket is required. General audience members may reserve one ticket; Friends of the Fair receive larger allocations according to membership level. Books are not included.
