Unbound: The Gaze Within
Mar 20, 2026
From: 7:00 PM to 10:30 PM
Portraits by Cameroonian photographer Angèle Etoundi Essamba take center stage during an exhibition opening and cultural program at The ARC (Arts & Recreation Center) in Opa-locka. Presented by Ten North Group in honor of Women’s History Month, the evening combines visual art, live jazz and a community recognition ceremony.
Unbound: The Gaze Within – The Photography of Angèle Etoundi Essamba opens Friday, March 20. The exhibition features 25 photographs that explore dignity, identity and self-definition through Essamba’s portraits of Black women. Known internationally for her powerful imagery, Essamba’s work emphasizes the inner presence and strength of her subjects while challenging imposed narratives around representation.
Opening night includes the presentation of Ten North Group’s 3rd Annual Women’s History Month Award to philanthropist, writer and filmmaker Dr. Kimberly Green. The program also features live performances by jazz and cabaret vocalist Carole Ann Taylor, often referred to as Miami’s “First Lady of Jazz,” with sets scheduled later in the evening.
The exhibition remains on view through May 20 at the Ten North Group Campus in the historic Opa-locka Arts District. Admission to the opening reception is free, and reservations are encouraged.
