Vizcaya Live: The Apple of their Eyes by Palaver Strings
Mar 18, 2026
From: 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
An evening of chamber music unfolds inside Vizcaya’s historic Main House and along its waterfront terrace as Palaver Strings presents The Apple of Their Eyes, a program exploring the African-American experience in classical music through works by Black composers.
Part of the Vizcaya Live series, the concert features the Grammy-nominated, musician-led ensemble in a thoughtfully curated repertoire spanning William Grant Still’s Mother and Child, Julia Perry’s Prelude for Piano, and Edmund Thornton Jenkins’ Romance and Reverie Phantasy for violin and string orchestra, restored and arranged by Tuffus Zimbabwe. The program also includes Adolphus Hailstork’s Sonata da Chiesa and the “Blues” movement from Maurice Ravel’s Violin Sonata No. 2, arranged for string orchestra. Together, the selections highlight themes of spirituality, resilience, reflection and cultural legacy within classical traditions.
Indoor Courtyard Seating offers an up-close, live acoustic experience inside the Main House courtyard, along with access to explore the Main House and gardens before or after the performance. Outdoor Seating provides guaranteed terrace seating with a livestream of the concert and garden access; this option does not include entry to the Main House.
Doors open at 7 p.m., with the 60-minute performance beginning at 7:30 p.m.
