What Water Remembers
Nov 18, 2026 - Feb 07, 2027
Daily through Feb 07, 2027
From: Noon to 5:00 PM
Films, textiles, sculptures and photographs explore how waterways carry histories of migration, trade and environmental change at Oolite Arts in Miami Beach. On view November 18, 2026 through February 7, 2027, What Water Remembers brings together eight artists in an exhibition curated by Sara Cluggish, director and curator of Carleton College’s Perlman Teaching Museum.
The works connect particular waters with the communities and forces that shape them. Ayesha Hameed follows an undersea telegraph cable linking Britain and India, tracing its connections to colonial extraction. Saodat Ismailova’s film installation considers the disappearance of the Aral Sea through ecological history and mythology. Closer to home, Lee Pivnik photographs Florida’s changing waterways, while Agustina Woodgate sands away cartographic information from a historic Florida map.
The exhibition also features Miya Ando, Adelita Husni-Bey, Beatriz Santiago Muñoz and Juana Valdés. Together, their approaches connect rainfall, oral traditions, shipping routes and altered landscapes with questions of cultural memory and ecological loss.
The exhibition is at 924 Lincoln Road, with gallery hours daily from noon to 5 p.m.
