William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet Film in Concert

Baz Luhrmann’s stylized 1996 adaptation of Romeo and Juliet returns to the big screen with its soundtrack and score performed live at the Adrienne Arsht Center. Presented Saturday, March 6 as part of the Live at Knight series, the 30th-anniversary program pairs the film with a 12-piece ensemble, synchronized music, atmospheric lighting and concert-style staging.

Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes, William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet relocates the tragedy to the heightened modern world of Verona Beach while retaining Shakespeare’s original dialogue. Its soundtrack became closely associated with the film’s identity, featuring songs including Des’ree’s “Kissing You,” The Cardigans’ “Lovefool,” Radiohead’s “Talk Show Host” and Garbage’s “#1 Crush.”

Developed in collaboration with Disney Concerts, the production expands the film into a live performance setting, with musicians accompanying the action in real time and bringing both the score and soundtrack into the theater.
