YAMATO: The Drummers of Japan World Tour

Traditional Japanese taiko drumming becomes a full-body theatrical performance as YAMATO combines synchronized movement, precise ensemble work and powerful percussion. The company brings its world tour Tamayura: Echoes of the Soul to The Moss Center on Saturday, February 27, with a Main Stage performance beginning at 7 p.m.

More than 40 drums surround the performers, including the large Odaiko, whose deep resonance anchors the production’s shifting rhythms. Through sound, movement and physical discipline, the program examines the expressive and communal qualities of taiko while moving between thunderous group passages and quieter, more intricate sequences.

Founded in Japan more than 30 years ago, YAMATO has presented thousands of performances across 55 countries. Tamayura continues the ensemble’s approach to traditional drumming as both a musical practice and a shared theatrical experience.
