Mayfair House Hotel & Garden

Mayfair House Hotel & Garden

The iconic Mayfair House Hotel & Garden in Coconut Grove has a new life with a name change and magical transformation that embraces its past and present.

The newly transformed Mayfair House Hotel & Garden reflects its storied past while embracing luxury and the free-spirited vibes of Coconut Grove. The iconic hotel, formerly known as the Mayfair Hotel & Spa, has held court in Coconut Grove since the 1980s. The new name showcases the hotel’s lushly landscaped gardens, with cascading fountains, pools and distinct architectural details including hand-painted tiles and mosaic flooring. The rebranded Mayfair House Hotel & Garden is set to reopen in late summer of 2022.

While new energy has been injected into the space, the transformation retains and even reveals much of original architect Kenneth Treister’s treasures, from archways to artisan finishes and details.

Guests enter through the sculptural wood door into the atrium’s gardens, where indoor and outdoor spaces easily intermingle. Guests will find a welcome mix of intimate spaces where they can tuck away to read a book or have a quiet conversation, as well as lively spots to socialize, drink and dine.

As a nod to Coconut Grove’s longtime artists’ community, the hotel commissioned custom art from local and international artists that showcases the neighborhood’s natural surroundings and its Bahamian roots. Look for the screen with a patina finish in the entryway by Miami-born Michele Oka Doner. The flora and fauna of the Bahamas is represented with vibrant murals in the elevators that whisk guests to the rooftop. Hand-painted murals by a Bahamian artist serve as a backdrop for the pool.

Suite Life

All of The Mayfair House Hotel & Garden’s guest rooms are suites, accessed from outdoor corridors that surround the garden. Most suites also have a private terrace where guests can see lush landscaping and walls draped in bougainvillea.

Each of the 179 suites is named after a bird or flower, and each has an individual personality expressed with custom furniture and textures splashed in a palette of rich colors. The range of room designs creates the feeling of a private guest house instead of a cookie-cutter hotel. Bonus: If you stay more than once, you can have a different experience each time.

For extra luxury, choose a suite on the third floor with a private garden and outdoor shower on the terrace – or spring for one of the largest suites, which are corner units located on each floor.

New Restaurants and Bars

The Mayfair House Hotel & Garden has two new dining experiences helmed by local favorite hospitality group, Lost Boy & Co.

At the hotel’s signature Mayfair Grill, you’ll find cuisine inspired by North America’s Sonoran regions. The dining room feels like a theater with open-hearth cooking and a wood-fired oven, so diners can watch chefs prepare their food. Expect dishes infused with spices and rich flavors such as Navajo bread, mole sauces, charred veggies and roasted peppers. Guests at the garden-café and atrium bar can sip agave-based spirits, tequila and mezcal.

Before or after dinner, head to the rooftop for panoramic views and flickering fireplaces that light up the night. Sipsip is a poolside dining experience where you’ll enjoy cuisine and cocktails inspired by the Caribbean, especially Coconut Grove’s longstanding Bahamian culture. Think conch salad and fish-fry inspired food, an extensive rum selection, and daiquiris and other classic island cocktails.

Before you leave the Mayfair, don’t forget to sign the guest book in the lobby, securing your place in the hotel’s long history.
