Golfers in South Florida say it’s hard to top the layout of the challenging courses at the Miccosukee Golf & Country Club. Built in 1970 in the heart of Miami and designed by Mark Mahannah, the postcard-pretty grounds have 27 holes over three par-36 courses – Dolphin, Marlin and Barracuda. One of the most notable golf course designers in post-war Florida, Mahannah was known for changing the face of golf in the area during his decades of work.
The Bermuda grass greens, formerly known as the Miami National Golf Club, were purchased by the Miccosukee tribe in 2001. The Miccosukee tribe has more than 600 members, the descendants of tribal members who lived in camps across the Everglades during the 1800s.
The Miccosukee Golf & Country Club has hosted many LPGA and PGA events, as well as the Miccosukee Championship, which ran from 2003 to 2012. The lighted driving range and putting green accommodate up to 50 golfers, and the course features a number of water hazards and strategically placed elevation changes to keep golfers on their toes.
The courses are open to club members as well as the general public. Golfers of all levels are welcome, with staff suggesting which 18 holes will best suit different abilities. This hidden gem is known for being a good choice for value-minded golfers.
The Miccosukee Golf & Country Club has hosted many LPGA and PGA events, including the Miccosukee Championship. Situated in the heart of Miami, this Mark Mahannah masterpiece is considered by many to have the one of the best layouts in the South Florida area. This picturesque and challenging facility boasts 27 holes, Par 72. The lighted practice facility and putting green accommodates up to 50 golfers and is open from 7 a.m. until 8:30 p.m. daily. Miccosukee Golf & Country Club features an Olympic-size swimming pool and banquet facilities that can host up to 500 guests for corporate meetings, weddings, quinces/sweet sixteens, birthdays, parties and more.
