How To Get a Taxi in Miami

Need a taxicab while you’re visiting Greater Miami & Miami Beach? Here are some tips to help you plan your trip.

Your cab should prominently display a telephone number and the word “taxi” or “cab” on the exterior of the vehicle. The taxi’s license number, driver’s license number and the driver’s rate card must also be displayed. Unlicensed taxis are illegal in Miami.

Taxi Fares, Tolls and Tips

Miami-Dade County Transportation & Public Works publishes current fare information. The department also has a handy list of taxicab stands at malls, attractions, theaters, train stations, Miami International Airport and other points of interest.

Most taxi drivers run a meter that displays the fare you are expected to pay. You’ll also be responsible for any tolls incurred during your trip. Tipping is customary (usually 15%-20% of your fare). Most Miami cabs have a credit card reader; if you prefer to pay with plastic, make sure you ask your driver if credit cards are accepted before you hop in.

Taxis at Miami International Airport

If you want to take a cab from Miami International Airport, head down to the lower-level curb outside of the baggage claim area, where uniformed airport employees will direct you to a designated taxi stand. Always seek out uniformed airport employees with MIA ID badges for assistance.
