Check out some of the best restaurants in Miami Beach.

First things first: while locals know the difference between Miami Beach and South Beach, it’s often a designation that visitors aren’t usually aware of. The good news is that we’ve got you covered.

Technically, Miami Beach is one big island that stretches from the South Pointe Park (where you can see the cruise ships come and go) to 87th Street (where the city of Surfside begins). South Beach is the southernmost part of Miami Beach, including Ocean Drive, and continues up to 23rd Street. Then Mid Beach runs along Collins Avenue from 24th up to 63rd Street. Finally, North Beach is the area between 64th and 87th Street.

It goes without saying that the South Beach restaurant scene is second to none, and there are many restaurants that will tempt your taste buds. Check out Where to Dine in South Beach to discover a few of our favorites. However, this time around we’re going to break down some of the best restaurants in Mid Beach. Without further ado…

Local Hotspots That Won't Break The Bank

Located inside a restored 1930s house adjacent to Freehand Miami, 27 Restaurant & Bar is a feel-good restaurant with an unpretentious vibe. Start at the Broken Shaker (also at Freehand), which has won numerous awards for its cocktail program and then shimmy up to the bar at 27 Restaurant to continue the adventure. Offering an array of small plates and meaty main events, 27 Restaurant prides itself on serving creative food sourced from local waters and farms. The yucca fries with lemon mojo is a great start, followed by smoked eggplant the shrimp shumai with gulf coast shrimp and sesame chili oil. Or try the popular kimchi fried rice, house-made pasta or local daily catch. 2727 Indian Creek Dr., Miami Beach, FL 33140

While there are some pricier (and delicious!) options on the menu, Bird & Bone at The Confidante hotel is local Chef Richard Hale’s take on a modern American farmhouse. You’ll sample his affinity for southern home-style cooking like the cheddar and chive biscuits, fried chicken and waffles with maple syrup, and the Swank Farms heirloom green beans. If you go during the daily happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. you can enjoy plenty of light bites and drink specials for less. Or maybe you’ll decide to splurge on the 14-ounce Prime New York Strip steak with a side of charred Swank Farms vegetables—the choice is yours. 4041 Collins Ave., Miami Beach, FL 33140

Iconic Fine Dining in Mid Beach

Having been one of the most recognizable and acclaimed restaurants in Miami Beach for decades, The Forge Restaurant and Wine Bar continues to attract a well-heeled clientele with a taste for the divine. Owner Shareef Malnik weaves an artistic combination of food, wine, interior design and entertainment into a culinary journey. It’s no wonder that The Forge is a popular place to celebrate special occasions. While the menu tends to evolve with the seasons, you’ll always be able to enjoy a perfectly crafted filet mignon with the Forge signature spice blend and fresh-from-the-sea options like Florida stone crab claws and Maine lobster. Pair it all with a vintage blend from the restaurant’s world-renowned wine cellar. 432 W. 41st St., Miami Beach, FL 33140

At Nobu Miami, Nobu Matsuhisa takes sushi to a whole new level. The chef fuses Japanese and Peruvian fare in a luxurious setting, attracting a bevy of celebrities and jetsetters. He even went as far to lend his name to the rebranded Nobu Eden Roc Hotel, cementing his status as a tastemaker in Miami and beyond. The chef’s signature dish, his black cod in miso, is a traditional Japanese dish with a touch of added sweetness. You can’t go wrong with the rock-shrimp tempura served with a trio of sauces, hamachi with jalapeño, and the crispy rice. 4525 Collins Ave., Miami Beach, FL 33140

Located in the upscale, garden-style courtyard of Soho Beach House, Cecconi’s is a grand, high-end Italian eatery where the people-watching and the cuisine are both haute. Take your pick from Chef Sergio Sigala’s hand-made pasta, pizza and Venetian-style seafood. Crowd favorites include the gnocchi with mushrooms and asiago, tagliolini with basil pesto and spring beans, and the ahi tuna tartare with capers. While the rest of Soho Beach House is a member’s only club and hotel, Cecconi’s is open to the public and reservations are highly recommended. 4385 Collins Ave., Miami Beach, FL 33140

The Many Decadent Dining Options at the Fontainebleau

A historic and glamorous landmark hotel since its opening in 1954, Fontainebleau Miami Beach, with its 12 restaurants and lounges, is a dining destination in its own right. Here are a few of the most memorable options at this Mid Beach gem.

Helmed by a celebrity chef and James Beard award recipient, Scarpetta by Scott Conant is a AAA Four-Diamond Italian restaurant. If you’re craving decadent pasta, the short rib agnolotti dal plin with horseradish, brown butter and red wine reduction is a stellar option. Then opt for the roasted branzino fish with eggplant. Also a AAA Four-Diamond restaurant, Hakkasan is an upscale Cantonese restaurant with high-end Chinese dishes like traditional roasted Peking duck, wok-baked lobster with black pepper and Szechuan style sautéed diced chicken.

Chef Michael Mina has two restaurants at the Fountainebleau: Pizza & Burger and StripSteak. For those looking for the perfect spot to unwind in a laid back atmosphere, Pizza & Burger is the ideal destination. Its lively vibe, complete with board games, will make you feel like you’re at a casual backyard party with great burgers, delicious crafted cocktails and killer pizza pies. On the other end of the spectrum, StripSteak is a classic American steakhouse where you can enjoy a quality cut from the onsite aging room and pair it with a fine bottle of wine for a fancy night out. 4441 Collins Ave., Miami Beach, FL 33140
