An Evening with Dr. Ibram X. Kendi
Mar 30, 2026
Starting: 7:00 PM
An author talk at Coral Gables Congregational United Church explores the historical roots and global spread of influential political ideas through a conversation with historian and author Dr. Ibram X. Kendi.
An Evening with Dr. Ibram X. Kendi takes place Monday, March 30 and is presented by Books & Books. The event centers on Kendi’s new book, Chain of Ideas, which traces the origins and international circulation of the concept known as “great replacement theory” and examines how variations of this idea have shaped political rhetoric, movements and violence across regions and time periods.
Drawing on historical research and global case studies, the book situates these narratives within a broader intellectual history, examining how demographic fear has been mobilized in different cultural and political contexts. Kendi’s approach focuses on how such ideas evolve, gain legitimacy and influence public discourse, particularly during periods of social and political instability.
Dr. Kendi is a historian and public intellectual whose work examines the history of racist ideas and power structures. He is the founding director of the Howard University Institute for Advanced Study and the author of multiple award-winning and bestselling books, including Stamped from the Beginning, which won the National Book Award for Nonfiction, and How to Be an Antiracist. His scholarship has been recognized internationally, including with a MacArthur Fellowship.
Tickets are required for entry and include one copy of Chain of Ideas, with each ticket admitting two guests. The program begins at 7 p.m.
