A literary conversation explores the overlooked worlds of insects and ecology through poetry, research and environmental observation.
An Evening with Lola Haskins takes place on Wednesday, January 7 at Books & Books in Coral Gables. The event centers on Haskins’ recent book, Like Zeros, Like Pearls, which blends lyrical writing with scientific inquiry to examine insect life and the ecosystems that shape the natural world.
Drawing on years of interviews with entomologists and extensive research, Haskins discusses how curiosity, environmental awareness and scientific rigor intersect in her work. The book reflects on ecological interconnectedness while remaining grounded in verified scientific detail, offering both poetic insight and factual depth.
Haskins is the author of 16 poetry collections and the recipient of numerous literary honors, including the Iowa Poetry Prize, multiple Florida Book Awards and recognition from The New York Times. Admission is free and open to the public, with RSVP recommended.
