An Evening With Mary Annaïse Heglar and Sasha Forbes
This event has passed.
Join Books & Books for an author talk with author Mary Annaïse Heglar on Tuesday, June 4. Heglar will be discussing her novel Troubled Waters with moderator Sasha Forbes.
In Troubled Waters, Heglar weaves an intimate portrait of two generations—a granddaughter and a grandmother—coming to terms with what it means to be family, Black women and alive in a world on fire. Corrine, the granddaughter, is awakened to the realities of climate change after her brother’s tragic death aboard an oil boat on the Mississippi River. Determined to make her brother’s life meaningful, she embarks on a journey that uncovers family secrets her grandmother, Cora, has kept hidden. As past and future collide, both women must confront their unspoken truths to find a path to healing.
Mary Annaïse Heglar is a prominent voice in climate discourse, drawing on her experiences as a Black woman from the South. Her essays, featured in publications like New York Magazine and Rolling Stone, confront the climate crisis with depth and personal insight. Troubled Waters marks her literary contribution, adding a compelling narrative to environmental literature.
Sasha Forbes, a connector and earth steward, brings her expertise in urban planning and publishing to enrich the discussion.
