Thu-Sun: Noon - 5 PM
A rare collection of original Founding-era documents arrives in Miami as part of a national exhibition marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Freedom Plane National Tour is on view at HistoryMiami Museum from June 20 through July 5, bringing together historic records from the National Archives that helped shape the nation’s founding. Miami is one of only eight cities nationwide selected to host the traveling exhibition, which expands public access to documents that have seldom traveled outside Washington, D.C.
The exhibition features original materials including the William Stone engraving of the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Association, oaths of allegiance signed by figures such as George Washington and Alexander Hamilton, the Treaty of Paris and early draft printings of the Constitution. The documents travel together as part of a specially designated tour inspired by the Bicentennial-era Freedom Train.
In addition to the exhibition, HistoryMiami Museum will present a digital participatory mural inviting visitors to share their wishes for America’s future, along with a July 4 public celebration on the museum plaza. The museum will also launch America 250: Voices of the Future, a countywide high school oratorical contest encouraging students to reflect on the ideals expressed in the nation’s founding documents.
The exhibition is free and open to the public and takes place at HistoryMiami Museum in downtown Miami.
