Through May 31, 2025
From: 03:00 PM to 06:00 PM
The ART HOUSE is an installation and concept store featuring artworks and artifacts available for sale at the AMADLOZI Gallery of the Marshall L. Davis Sr African Heritage Cultural Arts Center collection. The exhibition showcases artists from our collection, including works by Purvis Young, Roland Woods, Marvin Weeks, Dudley Alexis, Lily Evans, Marjaries Marmolejos, Joanne Hampstead, Suki Kinyana Hewitt, and Keesha Morisma. This exhibition runs through May 31, 2025.
On Saturday, May 3rd, from 3pm to 6pm, the AMADLOZI Gallery will host a discussion panel focused on the featured installation by Philovian, Shayla Marshall, and Heaven Jones. The trio has created an immersive art exhibition that explores Southern heritage and identity through contemporary art. Curated by Miami-based creative Heaven Jones, the installation brings together diverse voices to examine the intersection of lineage, culture, and transformation. Rooted in stories of resilience, community, and style, the exhibit uncovers the layers of Southern traditions while inviting viewers to reflect on what we inherit—and what we choose to let go.
The discussion features the groundbreaking work of Shayla Marshall, a Miami-born, London-educated artist. Through tintype photography, multimedia installations, and archival elements, Shayla reimagines Black histories and futures with themes like Hood Futurism and Black Regalness, creating immersive experiences that center Black individuality and culture. Also featured is grillz artist Phillip Norville, whose work honors legacy, identity, and self-expression in the South. Drawing from his family’s four-decade history in the grillz business, Phil creates pieces that blend craftsmanship and cultural storytelling—celebrating the pride, resilience, and creativity of Southern communities. Heaven Jones also contributes her own work, exploring themes of identity, healing, and the adultification of young Black girls. Her pieces delve into both the visible and invisible legacies we carry, using art to challenge harmful societal norms and reimagine supportive, liberating futures.
