Art on the Plaza: Carrington Ware Home Spun

Autobiographical textile flags transform MOCA North Miami’s front plaza into a meditation on family, childhood and Southern community life. Home Spun is on view July 1 through October 11 as part of the museum’s Art on the Plaza program. The temporary public installation draws from artist Carrington Ware’s memories of growing up in Georgia, from snapping peas with her grandmother to neighborhood fishing carnivals.

Ware uses color, pattern and personal imagery to explore how family traditions, shared rituals and collective care shape a sense of identity and place. The work invites visitors to consider the everyday experiences that become part of their own personal histories.

Based between South Florida and North Georgia, Ware is a multidisciplinary artist working across illustration, video, sound, textiles and installation. Her practice centers Black narratives and storytelling, with an emphasis on nostalgia, identity and place. Art on the Plaza is an annual program presenting site-specific work by South Florida artists in MOCA’s public plaza.
