Art Talk: Anina Major in Conversation with Jennifer Inacio
Oct 15, 2026
From: 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Bahamian-born artist Anina Major discusses how weaving traditions, clay and cultural memory shape her sculptural practice in a conversation at Pérez Art Museum Miami. Held Thursday, October 15, the program marks the opening of Anina Major: The Sacred Mangrove and pairs Major with PAMM Curator Jennifer Inacio.
The discussion explores Major’s process of hand-weaving clay to evoke palm-leaf plaiting, transforming a traditionally soft and impermanent craft into ceramic sculpture and installation. Her work examines labor, ancestry and Bahamian cultural traditions, while also considering the contrast between lived cultural identity and the islands’ image within the tourism economy.
Museum admission is free after 5 p.m. on Thursdays.
