See the works of Cuban artist Aurelio Márquez at Miami Beach Botanical Garden's Butterfly Gallery through January 30, 2022. Márquez's solo exhibition, Hortus Conclusus, is a collection of works in charcoal and acrylic on loose canvas. Often in large-format diptychs and triptychs, Márquez's paintings combine a sense of Romanticism inspired by his emotions, memories and poems that he reads daily.

Miami Beach-based painter Aurelio Márquez hails from Camaguey, Cuba, where he studied drawing in his early teens. In the 1980s, Márquez moved to Canada to study Graphic Design at George Brown College in Toronto. Upon returning to Cuba, he excelled in the design field and received a number of awards that include First Prize at the Cuban National Exhibition of Graphic Advertising and First Prize at the First Graphic Design Triennial in Havana, Cuba. Never abandoning his love of fine art throughout his stint in graphic design, Márquez took up painting full time upon moving to Miami Beach in 2006.
