Starting: 5:00 PM
Caribbean mixology, Afro-Latino food traditions and culinary storytelling come together during an author event with chef Nelson German at Books & Books in Coral Gables. Caribbean Cocktails: An Evening with Nelson German takes place Sunday, July 26, celebrating the release of German’s debut book, Caribbean Cocktails: Drinks and Bites from the Afro-Latino Diaspora. The event is free and open to the public, with books available for purchase during the evening.
The book features more than 40 drink recipes and 20 food recipes inspired by the drinking and dining cultures of the Afro-Latino diaspora. Recipes range from Caribbean cocktails and low-ABV variations to small plates shaped by Dominican heritage, tropical ingredients and modern mixology. The collection also includes batching tips, an ingredient index and personal stories connecting food, drinks and community gathering.
German is the chef and owner of Sobre Mesa and alaMar Dominican Kitchen & Bar in Oakland, as well as executive chef and partner at Meski in San Francisco. A Dominican-American chef from Washington Heights, he competed on Top Chef Season 18 and is known for cooking that explores African, Caribbean and Latin diasporic influences.
