Centennial Stories: Honoring 100 Years of South Florida Cities
Feb 28, 2026
From: 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM
A public panel discussion explores the shared origins and distinct identities of several South Florida cities marking their centennial milestones.
Centennial Stories: Honoring 100 Years of South Florida Cities is presented as part of Open House Miami, a citywide initiative that offers free public access to architecture- and design-focused programs across Miami-Dade. Organized by the Miami Center for Architecture & Design, the discussion brings together historians and preservation advocates to examine how Miami Shores, Opa-locka, Coral Gables, North Miami, Miami Springs and Hialeah emerged during the 1920s land boom and how their architectural and civic foundations continue to shape local identity.
The program opens with an introduction by Christine Rupp, executive director of the Dade Heritage Trust, followed by a moderated panel featuring representatives from historical and preservation organizations throughout the region. A reception follows the discussion, allowing time for informal conversation within the restored setting of Historic Opa-locka City Hall.
Centennial Stories: Honoring 100 Years of South Florida Cities takes place Saturday, February 28. The event is free and open to the public.
