Explore the rich cultural heritage of Cuban film with the Cuban Cinema Series, presented by Miami Dade College (MDC) in partnership with the Miami Film Festival. The August edition of the series celebrates the legacy of Cuban music with a screening of Al Bárbaro del Ritmo, a documentary film chronicling the creation of the Tropicana All Stars Orchestra and their tribute concert honoring the legendary Benny Moré.
The screening takes place on Friday, August 23 at Miami Dade College's Koubek Memorial Center, located in the heart of Little Havana. This is the final screening of the season.
Al Bárbaro del Ritmo tells the story of the Tropicana All Stars Orchestra, a Miami-based Latin Music ensemble dedicated to preserving the legacy of Benny Moré. Through a blend of archival footage and interviews with iconic figures like Celia Cruz, Olga Guillot, Willy Chirino and Bebo Valdés, the documentary transports viewers on a journey to the roots of Cuban music and celebrates the unparalleled talent of Benny Moré.
Admission is free and open to the public. Founded and curated by renowned film critic and author Alejandro Ríos, the Cuban Cinema Series brings together filmmakers, special guests and film enthusiasts.
