District Sounds: Carnival Edition

From: 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Caribbean rhythm, ritual and contemporary sound converge in the Miami Design District during an outdoor cultural celebration rooted in Carnival traditions.
District Sounds: Carnival Edition unfolds in Jungle Plaza on Sunday, February 1, alongside J’OUVERT, British-Trinidadian artist Zak Ové’s monumental public art installation. Ové’s towering sculptures blend Afrofuturist forms with ancestral symbolism and masquerade traditions, creating an immersive setting that reflects themes of identity, ceremony and collective memory within the African diaspora.
The program features a vibrant mix of live performance and movement, including traditional Junkanoo performers, soaring Moko Jumbies and percussion-led processions by Irawo Osa. The evening culminates with a live set by Etienne Charles & Creole Soul, whose genre-spanning sound bridges contemporary jazz with deep Caribbean roots.
Presented as part of the District’s ongoing public programming, the event transforms Jungle Plaza into a shared civic space where music, dance and visual art intersect in celebration of Carnival’s enduring cultural legacy.
