Edel Rodriguez: From Page to Stage
Jan 30, 2026
From: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
A live performance and documentary screening bring the work of Cuban-American artist Edel Rodriguez into focus through graphic storytelling, theater and film.
Edel Rodriguez: From Page to Stage presents an immersive evening at the Coral Gables Museum that explores Rodriguez’s artistic career and personal history across multiple formats. The program centers on Worm, Rodriguez’s first graphic novel and a political memoir, adapted into a theatrical live reading in which actors animate scenes and themes from the book on stage.
The evening also includes a screening of Edel Rodriguez: Freedom Is a Verb, an award-winning documentary produced for the PBS American Masters series. Directed by Mecky Creus and Adrienne Hall, the film traces Rodriguez’s journey from Cuba to the United States and examines his impact as a visual artist known for children’s books and widely recognized satirical magazine covers. The documentary has received multiple Best Documentary awards and screened at several Oscar-qualifying festivals.
The program begins with an opening reception, followed by the documentary screening and the live performance adaptation of Worm. The event takes place Friday, January 30.
