A character-driven solo performance blends humor, music and introspective storytelling in a theatrical piece centered on resilience and hope. Taking place Friday, March 27 at the Doral Cultural Arts Center, the production is part of the World Theater Day Miami program, a citywide initiative that presents free performances across multiple venues to highlight the role of theater in community and culture.
The play follows Esperanza Perdomo, portrayed by Venezuelan actress Alba Roversi, a longtime bar worker whose optimism and imagination shape her view of the world. Through anecdotes, boleros and moments of quiet reflection, the character shares her belief in a life-changing stroke of luck tied to a lottery number revealed in a dream. Written by Indira Páez and Dairo Piñeres, the piece balances lighthearted storytelling with underlying themes of perseverance and aspiration.
World Theater Day, established by UNESCO in 1961 and observed annually on March 27, serves as the backdrop for the performance. The Miami-based festival, organized by Ruta Teatral, aims to expand access to theater by presenting works in both traditional and unconventional spaces while supporting local artists and audiences.
