Everyday People Exhibit: Miami Soul Basel Edition
Feb 27, 2026
Session 1: 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM | Session 2: 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM
The Historic Black Police Precinct Courthouse and Museum presents Everyday People Exhibit: Miami Soul Basel Edition, a reflective installation centered on everyday expressions of being within the Black diaspora.
Organized by The Miami Center for Architecture & Design, this open house experience invites visitors to explore the exhibition during Open House Miami, situating contemporary visual narratives within one of Miami’s most significant civil rights landmarks. The exhibit examines presence, identity and lived experience through works that emphasize the power of simply existing.
This open house experience is offered on two days during Open House Miami:
Set in the heart of historic Overtown, the former Colored Police Precinct and Courthouse was constructed in 1950 to serve Black patrol officers and the city’s first Black judge during the era of segregation. The building functioned as a base where officers enforced the law within restricted zones while simultaneously confronting systemic discrimination within the Miami Police Department and city government.
Today, the site operates as a museum dedicated to preserving and interpreting these layered histories, providing essential context for the exhibition’s themes of resilience, visibility and community memory.
This experience is offered twice each day. Visitors should select the ticket corresponding to their preferred time slot.
