Expanded Archive: Home Movie Day Miami
Oct 17, 2026
Three parts: 2 PM to 4:30 PM | 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM | 7:30 PM to 9 PM
Home movies become a lens on family, community and local history during a day of preservation activities, archival screenings and experimental audiovisual performance at Deering Estate. Presented Saturday, October 17 by Deering Estate, the Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives at Miami Dade College and Moving Image Alliance, the program is Miami’s 2026 edition of the international Home Movie Day celebration.
The afternoon begins with an open house featuring continuous projections of recent Wolfson Archives acquisitions and opportunities to bring 8mm, Super 8, 16mm, VHS, Hi8 and MiniDV home movies for inspection and discussion with artist Barron Sherer and Archives staff. A presentation on donating home movies follows, covering preservation, processing and what happens after material enters the collection.
The evening concludes with a featured live audiovisual program pairing experimental sound and music with multiscreen compilations drawn from previously donated home movies. Performers include Archival Feedback, ‘needle’ and Dania Sixto with Freddy Jouwayed, who also provides live visuals and serves as technical director.
