Exploring Fiber Art: Textile Manipulation
Jun 03, 2025
From: 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Explore creative ways to work with textiles in a hands-on workshop that introduces both traditional and experimental fiber art techniques. Exploring Fiber Art: Textile Manipulation takes place on Tuesday, June 3 at Oolite Arts, led by artist and sustainability advocate Pangea Kali Virga.
This beginner-friendly session focuses on textile manipulation methods such as pleating, smocking and fabric distressing, guiding participants through the process of transforming fabric scraps into a personalized patchwork wall hanging. All core materials are provided, though attendees are encouraged to bring fabric remnants, yarn, embroidery floss or small branches to enhance their final work.
The workshop is part of a four-part series that also includes sessions on weaving, embroidery and patchwork. Participants may register for individual sessions or attend the full series.
As a current Artist in Residence at Oolite Arts, Kali Virga creates layered fiber artworks using upcycled and natural materials. Her work often explores themes of sustainability, fashion and identity, and is currently on view in the exhibition Between Here and Elsewhere. Attendees will also have the opportunity to visit the artist’s studio and explore the show as part of the evening’s experience.
