From: 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Explore a story of resilience, unity and grassroots engineering in a film that spotlights one of Haiti’s most significant recent infrastructure efforts. This documentary premiere offers a firsthand look at the creation of the Canal of Ouanaminthe, a project that mobilized communities across Haiti and its diaspora.
The Film Premiere: Heroes of the Massacre River will take place on Friday, May 30 at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex, as part of the venue’s Haitian Heritage Month programming. The documentary traces the development of the historic canal through the voices of key contributors—including scholars, builders and organizers—whose efforts shaped the initiative into a national symbol of self-determination. Featured figures include Dr. Bertrhude Albert, Dr. Naismy-Mary Fleurant, architect Wideline Pierre and economist Etzer Emile, along with local workers Milourie Sylfrard, Theodore Johnson and Joseph Pressoir.
Directed by Boyo Films and produced by Faces of Haiti Inc., the film combines original footage, aerial visuals, artwork and music to present a layered narrative guided by the on-screen presence of Angie Ethanol. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the documentary in a community setting that honors both cultural heritage and contemporary storytelling.
