Film Screening: The Chess Player
Dec 11, 2025
From: 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM
An evening of film and conversation brings together cultural and community leaders at the Coral Gables Museum for a special screening of The Chess Player, the Spanish drama that follows a man whose skill at chess becomes a lifeline during the turmoil of war. Framed as an intimate cultural gathering, the program blends a reception, contextual remarks and a post-film discussion.
Film Screening: The Chess Player begins at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception featuring light bites and Spanish-style beverages, offering guests time to meet and connect before the program starts. Opening remarks and a brief introduction to the film follow, leading into the 7:15 p.m. screening. After the 98-minute film, attendees are invited to stay for a Q&A with filmmakers and chess experts.
All proceeds support the launch of the museum’s new CGM Chess Club, debuting during Family Day in January. Centered on themes of resilience, strategy and survival, the evening provides a reflective and community-oriented setting for engaging with the film and its historical context.
