Big band jazz takes center stage as FIU student musicians perform a program built around ensemble interplay, rhythmic drive and the broad stylistic range of the jazz tradition. The FIU Jazz Big Band performs Thursday, February 25 at the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts as part of the school’s 2026-2027 season. The concert highlights emerging jazz artists working within the large-ensemble format, where brass, reeds and rhythm section combine in tightly coordinated arrangements.
The program showcases the scale and flexibility of the big band sound while giving FIU musicians the opportunity to develop ensemble precision, improvisational skills and a shared sense of swing in a live performance setting.
