FIU Music Festival: Kaddish - A Musical Legacy
Oct 24, 2026
From: 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM
Cellist Jason Calloway joins the FIU Symphony Orchestra for a festival-closing program centered on Frederick Kaufman’s Kaddish, a concerto for cello and strings tied closely to the history of FIU’s music program. Presented Saturday, October 24, at the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center, the concert closes the 2026 FIU Music Festival with a work by the founding director of the university’s School of Music.
Calloway, a member of the Amernet String Quartet, appears as guest soloist in Kaddish, bringing the concerto’s reflective and commemorative character to the stage with the FIU Symphony Orchestra. The performance also serves as a tribute to Kaufman’s legacy at FIU and his role in shaping the School of Music.
The concert concludes the anniversary edition of the FIU Music Festival, linking the institution’s past with its current performers and artistic community.
