Mar 03, 2026
Starting: 7:30 PM
A program honoring Women’s History Month and Francophonie Month explores the global reach of jazz through French and Francophone traditions and the work of women composers.
Francophone Women in Jazz: Frost Studio Jazz Band takes place Tuesday, March 3 at Gusman Concert Hall at the University of Miami. Directed by trumpeter and composer Etienne Charles, the ensemble presents a wide-ranging repertoire that pairs classic French and Francophone standards with compositions by women whose voices have helped shape jazz across generations.
The concert highlights lyrical melodies rooted in French musical heritage alongside contemporary works that reflect modern perspectives on jazz’s evolving language. By centering underrepresented composers and cultural influences, the program underscores jazz as a living, international art form shaped by diverse histories and creative voices.
Presented by the Frost School of Music, the performance continues the Studio Jazz Band’s commitment to spotlighting inclusive programming while showcasing the ensemble’s dynamic range and collaborative artistry.
