Friday at Rooftop Cinema Club
Feb 27, 2026
Starting: 10:30 PM
A late-night rooftop screening brings a West Coast classic to the screen, blending everyday humor, neighborhood rhythm and sharply observed social comedy.
Released in 1995 and co-written by Ice Cube, Friday follows Craig Jones and Smokey through a single day in South Central Los Angeles as small decisions snowball into increasingly chaotic consequences. Directed by F. Gary Gray in his feature debut, the film became a defining touchstone of Black cinema by turning ordinary moments into cultural shorthand. Its relaxed pacing, lived-in dialogue and endlessly quotable scenes capture a specific time and place while resonating far beyond it. What unfolds is less about the $200 at stake than about friendship, survival and finding humor in the pressure of everyday life.
The screening takes place Friday, February 27 at Rooftop Cinema Club on Miami Beach as part of the venue’s Celebrating Black Cinema series, presented during Black History Month. The series highlights films created by and starring Black filmmakers and performers, recognizing the lasting influence of Black storytelling across genres and generations.
Guests watch from Rooftop Cinema Club’s open-air setting, with seating options that include individual Adirondack chairs or shared loveseats designed for relaxed, social viewing. Select ticket packages include popcorn, and all seating faces the outdoor screen.
