Friedrich Kunath: I’ll Romanticize This Later

German Romanticism meets American pop culture in works that approach longing, melancholy and nostalgia with humor. Friedrich Kunath: I’ll Romanticize This Later is on view December 1, 2026 through January 22, 2027 at ICA Miami’s Expansion Building in the Miami Design District.

The German-born artist’s first solo museum exhibition in the United States brings together paintings, sculptures and installations spanning his career. Presented across the building’s second floor, it explores his dialogue with painter Caspar David Friedrich, including the recurring motif of a figure seen from behind.

A new immersive digital environment adds an interactive dimension, allowing visitors to experiment with lyrics, titles and other forms of text that recur in Kunath’s work.

The presentation is a collaboration between the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami, DMINTI and Nassima Art Foundation.
