Oct 22, 2026
From: 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM
Haitian art, cultural stewardship and advocacy come together for an evening of conversation and community at The Gallery at The Betsy in Miami Beach. Presented Thursday, October 22 as part of the Édouard Duval-Carrié retrospective, the program begins with a reception recognizing the work of the Ayiti Community Trust before turning to a panel on the collecting, preservation and interpretation of Haitian art.
Moderated by Dr. Rebecca Friedman, director of FIU’s Public Humanities Lab, The Power & Realities of Collecting Haitian Art brings together exhibiting artist Édouard Duval-Carrié, NYU scholar Dr. Edward J. Sullivan and Pérez Art Museum Miami director Franklin Sirmans. The discussion considers how museums, collectors, markets and diaspora communities shape the ways Haitian art is preserved, valued and understood.
The evening is hosted by Betsy curator and co-owner Lesley Goldwasser, with welcome remarks from Carl Juste, special projects curator and founder of Iris Photo Collective. The reception begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by the panel at 8 p.m. Admission is free.
