Guayabera Day Designation Celebration
Jun 27, 2025
From: 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Celebrate the legacy of an iconic garment and its deep cultural roots during an evening that honors tradition, craftsmanship and community. Set in the heart of Little Havana, this gathering highlights the significance of the Guayabera shirt and its enduring place in Hispanic heritage and Miami’s identity.
The Guayabera Day Designation Celebration takes place on Friday, June 27 from 4 to 10 p.m. at The Havana Collection, a well-known Guayabera store on Calle Ocho. Hosted by Calle Ocho News in partnership with Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins, the event commemorates the official redesignation of July 1 as Guayabera Day. An official ceremony led by Commissioner Higgins will recognize the shirt’s cultural symbolism and generational importance in South Florida and beyond.
This year’s celebration also honors the late George Feldenkreis, a key figure in bringing the Guayabera into mainstream North American fashion. Founder of Supreme International—now Perry Ellis International—Feldenkreis helped popularize the garment through decades of leadership and innovation, including the 2000 launch of Cubavera, a brand known for blending traditional Latin styles with modern design. A tribute to his contributions will be part of the evening’s program.
Attendees can expect complimentary Cuban cuisine and beverages, along with live entertainment that reflects the vibrancy of Hispanic music and culture. Admission is free and open to the public.
