Gyedu-Blay Ambolley
Aug 03, 2025
From: 6:00 PM to Midnight
Hear a cornerstone of Ghanaian music history performed live for the first time in the U.S. as Gyedu-Blay Ambolley takes the stage with his 8-piece band from Ghana.
Part of the ZeyZey Selects series, this special performance takes place Sunday, August 3 at ZeyZey Miami. A pioneer of the highlife-funk fusion known as Simigwa, Ambolley will perform his groundbreaking 1975 debut album Simigwa in full. Blending highlife, Afrobeat, funk and soul, the album reflects both Ambolley’s deep Ghanaian roots and his global musical influences, including James Brown.
With a career spanning nearly five decades and 29 albums, Ambolley is regarded as one of the most influential figures in West African music. His work with legends like Ebo Taylor and his early performances alongside Fela Kuti helped shape the course of modern highlife and Afro-fusion.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m., with happy hour food and drink specials available until 7:00 p.m. ZeyZey Miami is an all-ages venue; guests under 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian for late-night shows.
