Art, heritage, and diplomacy converge in an exhibition celebrating three decades of cultural exchange between Florida and Japan.
On view September 13 through November 16 at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum FIU, Harmony of Nature and Art: The Bridge of Spiritual Connection commemorates the 30th anniversary of the sister-state relationship between Florida and Wakayama Prefecture. The exhibition features traditional Noh masks by master carver Hakuzan Kubo, netsuke miniature sculptures from the museum’s collection, paintings by the Florida Highwaymen and contemporary works by artists from both regions.
Together, these pieces illuminate the shared appreciation for nature, craftsmanship and spiritual expression that unites the two cultures. Organized by the Florida Department of State Division of Arts and Culture, the exhibition includes works on loan from institutions and private collections across Florida and Japan, highlighting the lasting impact of artistic collaboration and friendship.
