Aug 01, 2025 - Aug 03, 2025
Fri: 10:00 AM | Sat: Noon | Sun: 3:00 PM
Celebrate eight decades of cultural legacy and community spirit at one of Miami’s most historically significant coastal landmarks.
The Historic Virginia Key Beach Park 80th Anniversary takes place August 1–3, honoring the park’s founding in 1945 as the only beach officially designated for Miami-Dade’s Black community. This three-day celebration, themed “From Coastlines to Communities: A Legacy in the Sand,” highlights the site’s enduring role in Miami’s civil rights history and its continued importance as a gathering place for all.
The weekend begins Friday, August 1, with the official Museum Project Commencement Ceremony, coinciding with Historic Virginia Key Beach Park Day as recognized by the State of Florida. Saturday’s Community Fun Day brings a family-friendly lineup of waterslides, icy treats, live mural painting, guided tours and oral histories. On Sunday, August 3, the Poetry Potluck spoken word series offers a grassroots mix of storytelling, poetry and food, closing the celebration with an intimate reflection on community and culture.
All events take place at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park. Guests are encouraged to bring their curiosity, creativity and sense of celebration.
