Hope and Courage in Rosewood and the Holocaust
Jan 25, 2026
From: 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
A thoughtful public conversation examines how art can carry memory, resilience and historical reckoning across generations. Centered on two bodies of work by Florida artist Pedro Jermaine, the program considers how painting can bear witness to collective trauma while foregrounding themes of hope and moral courage.
The discussion focuses on Hope Prevails and Ometz Lev/Courage of the Heart, series that address the 1923 Rosewood massacre and the Holocaust through visual storytelling. Jermaine is joined by public historian Lizzie Robinson Jenkins for a dialogue about historical remembrance, artistic responsibility and the ongoing work of preserving difficult histories. A light reception follows the conversation.
Hope and Courage in Rosewood and the Holocaust takes place Sunday, January 25 at the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU on Miami Beach. Presented by the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs at FIU, the event is free and open to the public.
