How to Build a Learning Garden

School gardens become a model for hands-on learning in a practical workshop on creating educational growing spaces at the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. Held Saturday, October 24, the session is led by gardener and educator Andi Potamkin and Little River Cooperative founder Muriel Olivares, using the SEED School of Miami’s farm-to-kitchen garden as a case study.

Potamkin founded the SEED School garden program in 2021 and has developed it into a resource used across the school curriculum. Olivares brings a background in organic farming, edible landscaping and garden design, including more than five years collaborating with Potamkin on the SEED School garden.

The discussion covers how to plan and develop a learning garden of different sizes and in varied settings, with take-home materials provided for participants. The program is open to anyone interested in connecting young people with gardening, food systems and the natural world. Admission is free.
