Ikebana Workshop & Demonstration
This event has passed.
A hands-on workshop offers an in-depth introduction to ikebana, the traditional Japanese art of floral arrangement, through live demonstration and guided practice.
Ikebana Workshop & Demonstration takes place Friday, February 13 at the Coral Gables Museum as part of Five Senses of Japan, a broader cultural program exploring Japanese artistic traditions through immersive, sensory-based experiences. Led by renowned ikebana artist Akiko Iwata alongside Michiyo Ishii-Sloane, the session begins with a one-hour demonstration followed by a one-hour participatory workshop.
During the demonstration, the artists create a series of ikebana arrangements using handcrafted ceramic vessels curated by James Herring of the Ceramic League, highlighting the relationship between floral design and ceramic art. In the workshop portion, participants receive flowers and vessels to create their own arrangements with guidance from the artists and take their finished pieces home.
