Immigrant Artist at Work
Through Dec 07, 2025
Starting: Various
This year, Art Week at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex (LHCC) shines a bold spotlight on the voices and visions of immigrant artists navigating today’s complex U.S. immigration landscape. Anchored by the theme “Immigrant Artist at Work: Creating Dangerously,” inspired by Edwidge Danticat’s powerful memoirs, the experience celebrates the bravery it takes to create art while forging a life in a new land.
Through evocative works that balance longing, identity, and hope, exhibiting artists explore the dual realities of building home in unfamiliar territory while carrying the memories, traditions, and dreams of the homeland they left behind. Their pieces illuminate resilience, cultural preservation, and the urgent need for creative expression in uncertain times.
With this theme, LHCC honors the immigrant artist’s journey—one marked by vulnerability, defiance, and boundless vision—while positioning the cultural complex as a vibrant hub for dialogue, belonging, and artistic freedom.
This year’s programming activates three major spaces across LHCC: the Gallery, the Marketplace, and the Mezzanine.
• Marketplace – “CREATE DANGEROUSLY”
Six emerging immigrant artists will transform the shorter pillars into original murals. Selected artists receive an honorarium and materials budget, allowing them to bring their boldest ideas to life.
• Mezzanine – “FOREIGNER”
Two artists will be showcased side by side, sparking a powerful conversation between their unique practices and shared cultural influences.
• Main Gallery
Curated by two visionary curators, the Gallery exhibition features standout artists from across South Florida. The show debuts with a grand opening reception and unveils a conceptual installation—a living, breathing environment capturing the emotional terrain of making home in a foreign land while holding tight to ancestral roots.
Throughout Art Week, LHCC will also present a dynamic lineup of programs, including artist talks, an open mic, and a live concert, creating a full-sensory celebration of immigrant creativity and cultural expression.
