iWitness Lunch Break: Visualizing the Everyday
Jan 09, 2026
From: 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
A midday conversation and performance explores how everyday life becomes a site of meaning through visual storytelling, music and community dialogue. Centered on photography, journalism and lived experience, the program examines how artists document and elevate the moments that shape collective memory.
The event features visiting artist Vanessa Charlot in conversation with award-winning photojournalist Carl-Philippe Juste and other participants, reflecting on approaches to capturing the everyday with care and intention. Charlot, a Miami native and member of Miami’s Haitian community, draws from her work as a photographic artist and filmmaker whose practice focuses on community documentation and representation. The program also includes a bilingual vocal performance by singers from the Florida Grand Opera, adding a live musical dimension to the discussion. DJ Mack serves as master of ceremonies.
iWitness Lunch Break: Visualizing the Everyday takes place Friday, January 9 at The Forum in the Academic Two Building at FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus. Presented by the FIU Public Humanities Lab in partnership with iWitness and several cultural and academic organizations, the event includes lunch and is open to the public.
