Set in the capital of French Guiana, this coming-of-age drama follows a young boy whose desire to connect with his cultural roots stirs unresolved grief and long-held tensions within his family. Through drumming and the search for healing, the story unfolds against a backdrop of memory, loss and intergenerational trauma.
Kouté Vwa (Listen to the Voices) screens Friday, May 30 at the Koubek Center as part of the Third Horizon Film Festival. Presented in French Guianese Creole and French with English subtitles, the feature marks the debut full-length film by Maxime Jean-Baptiste, a filmmaker known for exploring colonial history and memory through archival and performative techniques. A Q&A with co-writer Audrey Jean-Baptiste will follow the screening.
