A daughter’s search into her mother’s past opens a time-bending look at freedom, feminism and unfinished social change. Liberation runs March 19 through April 18 at GableStage’s Wolfson Family Theatre at The Biltmore in Coral Gables.
Written by Bess Wohl and directed by GableStage Producing Artistic Director Bari Newport, the regional premiere follows a woman investigating her mother’s legacy and the continuing fight for women’s rights. Fresh from its Broadway run, the play won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Play and brings together humor, political urgency and personal discovery.
The production is part of GableStage’s 28th season, which features regional and Florida premieres at the company’s Coral Gables home. Liberation continues the season’s focus on contemporary plays centered on identity, family, power and belonging.
The production contains nudity. Attendees must be 18 or older, or attending with a parent. Performances are phone-free, with all phones powered off and secured in Yondr pouches upon arrival. Performances are scheduled Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with matinees on Wednesdays, Sundays and the final Saturday at 2 p.m.
