Listening Party: Funkadelic - Maggot Brain

Funkadelic’s psychedelic-funk landmark Maggot Brain gets a full-album spin at Sweat Records as the Little Haiti shop marks the release of a new all-analog reissue. The listening party takes place Friday, September 11, the same day the newly remastered edition arrives, with copies available along with giveaways and a raffle for exclusive merchandise.

Released in 1971, Maggot Brain pushed George Clinton’s Funkadelic further into the intersection of funk, psychedelic rock and soul. Its centerpiece is the 10-minute title track, built around Eddie Hazel’s celebrated lead-guitar performance, while songs including “Can You Get to That,” “Hit It and Quit It” and “Super Stupid” explore the album’s broader mix of styles. The 2026 vinyl reissue was mastered directly from restored analog tapes as part of ORG Music’s ongoing Westbound Records reissue series.
