LIVE@Frost Science: Breathing New Life into Florida’s Coral Reef
This event has passed.
Find out about efforts currently underway to steward Florida's critically threatened coral reef's back to health at the Wednesday, November 8 installment of LIVE@Frost Science. At this upcoming edition, Dr. Les Kaufman of Boston University will present Breathing New Life Into Florida’s Coral Reef, where he'll elaborate on why we should be hopeful about the future of Florida’s Coral Reef.
In addition to misplaced boat anchors, ship groundings, pollution, overfishing and hurricanes, this year’s ocean warming brought devastating mass coral bleaching and death to Florida’s Coral Reef, much of which has also been affected by Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease. Neither of the aforementioned threats are going away anytime soon, leading pessimists to despair that efforts to steward our reef back to health are doomed. In his talk, Dr. Kaufman will discuss the resiliency of Florida’s Coral Reef and the large-scale conservation strategies in place such as Mission: Iconic Reefs, a multilateral NOAA-led effort to steward our reef back to health.
Admission is complimentary. Tickets are limited to four per transaction. The presentation takes place inside the Frost Planetarium. Seating is first-come, first-served. Food and beverage will be available for purchase prior to the event.
