Malcolm X at O Cinema
This event has passed.
Spike Lee’s landmark biopic of Malcolm X comes to the big screen in an evening dedicated to cinematic storytelling and social reflection at O Cinema. Presented as part of the City of Miami Beach’s Juneteenth programming, this special screening offers an opportunity to revisit one of the most powerful portraits of the civil rights era.
Malcolm X at O Cinema will be shown on Thursday, June 19 at 7:00 p.m. The film stars Denzel Washington in a commanding performance that traces the activist’s transformation from troubled youth to influential leader. Adapted from The Autobiography of Malcolm X, the film explores themes of racial identity, justice and personal awakening with Spike Lee’s dynamic visual style and historical insight.
Following the screening, a panel discussion will feature special guests engaged in local and national racial justice efforts, including David Peery, founder of the Miami Coalition to Advance Racial Equity; Michael Langley, Executive Director of the Florida Justice Institute; and Professor Zanita E. Fenton of the University of Miami School of Law. Together, they bring expertise in homelessness, civil rights and structural inequality to a timely conversation about resistance, advocacy and systemic change.
