A solo recital highlights the guitar’s role as a bridge between early music traditions and contemporary classical expression.
Miami International GuitART Festival: Liamna Pestana takes place Sunday, February 22 at the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts. Part of the Miami International GuitART Festival, the performance features Cuban-born guitarist, singer and scholar Liamna Pestana, whose work spans classical guitar, early plucked instruments and historical performance practice.
Pestana’s artistry draws from extensive training in Cuba, Mexico, Argentina and the United States, with a repertoire shaped by early music, Latin American traditions and classical technique. A faculty member at the New World School of the Arts and a doctoral candidate at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, she is known for performances that connect centuries of musical history while emphasizing the guitar’s evolving cultural voice.
